The short version
- Strategy Q3 earnings: net income to common shareholders hit a record $19.12 billion, or $44.75 a diluted share, driven by a $20.91 billion paper gain as Bitcoin rose 43% in the quarter.
- Over nine months Strategy is still $2.27 billion in the red, it has sold $431.8 million of Bitcoin this year for dividends and STRC buybacks, and its BTC yield is -3.7%.
- The crew is watching Bitcoin against Strategy’s $75,446 average cost, now about 3.6% below the price, and STRC’s first daily dividends from November 1.
Strategy Q3 earnings set a company record, and almost all of it came from one place: the Bitcoin price. Strategy (MSTR) made $19.12 billion for common shareholders in the three months to September 30, or $44.75 a diluted share, according to the results it filed with the SEC on Thursday, October 29.
The quarter flatters the company. Bitcoin rose 43% between the end of June and the end of September, and Strategy books its coins at market value, so the whole move landed in the income statement. Over nine months, the company is still $2.27 billion in the red for common shareholders.
Strategy posted the headline numbers right after the US close:
Strategy announces Q3 2026 results:
– $21 billion operating income, our largest quarter ever
– $21 billion capital raised YTD
– Returned $STRC to health
– 848,517 $BTC held, up 26% YTD

Where Did Strategy’s $21 Billion Q3 Profit Come From?
From a $20.91 billion paper gain on its Bitcoin, not from selling coins or from the software business. Since 2025, accounting rules make Strategy mark its Bitcoin to market every quarter. BTC closed June at $58,524 on Coinbase and September at $83,556, which lifted the stack from $49.67 billion to $70.82 billion on the books.
Operating income was $20.91 billion, which Strategy rounds to $21 billion and calls its largest quarter ever. Take out the Bitcoin gain and the software side lost about $2.6 million: $89.6 million of gross profit on $125.4 million of revenue didn’t quite cover $92.2 million of operating costs. After a $1.41 billion tax provision and $419.6 million of preferred dividends, $19.12 billion was left for MSTR holders.

Strategy Sold Bitcoin to Pay Its Dividends
The less flattering numbers sit further down the Strategy earnings report. Strategy has sold about $431.8 million of Bitcoin this year to fund part of its preferred dividends and STRC buybacks: 1,395 BTC in the second quarter and 5,552 BTC in the third. The Q3 coins went for an average of $62,780, roughly $12,700 under what Strategy paid on average. It also bought 7,218 BTC in the quarter, so the stack still grew.
Strategy’s Bitcoin holdings stood at 848,517 BTC on October 25, up 26% this year. Per share, the picture runs the other way. Strategy’s BTC yield, its own measure of Bitcoin per diluted share, is −3.7% year to date because it issued stock faster than it added coins: class A shares outstanding jumped from 292.4 million to 402.3 million in nine months.
SIDE TRAIL: Strategy Break-Even Price: Bitcoin Sits Just 6.8% Above $75,446
On the cash side, Strategy holds $5.07 billion in its USD reserve and cash, which it says covers 3.4 years of preferred dividends and interest, and it has bought back $2.04 billion of STRC this year at an average of $97.39 a share. CFO Andrew Kang steps down on November 5; Reza Virasteh, now head of operations, takes the job on January 1, 2027.
Michael Saylor sounded upbeat. “We’re at the beginning of the next bitcoin bull market,” he said in the release, pointing to Bitcoin trading 21% above its 200-week moving average.
MSTR Stock and Bitcoin After the Strategy Q3 Earnings

The market didn’t celebrate the MSTR earnings. The stock closed Thursday at $141.62 and slipped to about $133 in after-hours trading as Bitcoin fell overnight. The stock did beat its main asset in the quarter itself, rising 76% against Bitcoin’s 43%.
Bitcoin trades at $78,201 at the time of writing, about 6% below its September 30 close. That means the fourth quarter so far shows a paper loss, though BTC is still about 3.6% above Strategy’s $75,446 average cost and above the 200-day average at $73,167.
TRAIL MAP: STRC Daily Dividend Approved: Strategy Shareholders Vote to Pay Every Day From November 1
