Binance CFO Kaiser Ng is leaving after more than five years, co-CEO Yi He said on Saturday, and Justin Yek, most recently vice president of finance at payments firm Airwallex, takes his place. The statement was reported by Bloomberg nine days after the $6.34 billion Binance hack.
The change, in four lines:
1. Who leaves: Ng, CFO since January 2022 and before that at Kraken, according to his LinkedIn profile. Yi He says he “has decided to pursue a new venture.” 2. Who arrives: Yek, who joined Airwallex in 2022 and leads its global finance team, after more than a decade in investment banking at Morgan Stanley and Citi. 3. The timing: Binance says the handover followed “a transition plan implemented over the last half year,” which puts its start well before the October 29 theft. 4. What’s missing: a leaving date for Ng. Binance hasn’t given one.
Ng said goodbye himself on Sunday morning. He’s leaving to build several projects that put real-world assets on a blockchain, from basketball and music to GPUs, robotics, gold and collectibles:
After five years as CFO of Binance, I have decided to go build something of my own.
The past ten years in the digital asset exchange space have felt surprisingly short, because I enjoyed what I was doing. Having passion for what you do is so important, and I will come back to
Is the Binance CFO Change Linked to the Hack?
Binance says no. In Yi He’s words, the plan ran over six months, and the hack hit on October 29, so the two only overlap at the very end. Nothing public ties Ng’s exit to the theft.
The timing still lands on the busiest weeks the finance desk has had. After North Korea-linked attackers took the coins, Binance refilled the hot wallets from part of its SAFU emergency fund, part of the futures insurance fund and its own treasury, and said users would not carry the loss. By October 31, 98% of the stolen tokens had been replaced. A proof of reserves report on November 2 showed the ten coins hit by the hack backed at least one to one.
That’s the balance sheet the new Binance CFO inherits. It looks clean on the latest snapshot. The bill for getting there came out of Binance’s own funds.

Who Is Justin Yek?
A banker turned fintech finance chief. His Airwallex speaker profile says that beyond the books he worked on corporate development, new market expansion and financial partnerships, and that he started out as an entrepreneur and software engineer before banking.
Airwallex moves money across borders for businesses, a world of licences and banking partners in many countries at once. Binance is deep in the same kind of work. It is trimming products in Brazil ahead of a local licence and will close every Binance France account on December 31 after missing the EU’s MiCA licence.

BNB Price Barely Moves on the News

BNB, the token of Binance’s own chain, trades at $697 at the time of writing, flat on the day and down 2% on the week. So the CFO news hasn’t moved it.
The hack did the real damage. BNB fell from $760 to $698 on October 29, with a low at $680, and buyers have defended that level twice since. It sits below its 50-day moving average at $744 and above the 200-day at $658. The area to watch is $680: as long as daily closes hold above it, $720 is the next test, and a close below it opens the way to $634.
Binance hasn’t said when Ng’s last day is. For now, the only date in the story is October 29, and Binance says its plan is older than that.
