XRP Ledger Upgrade Slips to November 4 After a Two-Hour Vote Dip

Friday's XRP Ledger fix lost its countdown after a two-hour dip in validator votes. It now goes live November 4, and the lending upgrade is still 8 to 10 votes short.

The short version

  • XRP Ledger upgrade fixCleanup3_4_0 won’t go live on Friday: validator support dipped below 29 of 35 for about two hours on Wednesday, so the new date is November 4.
  • It is a bug-fix bundle that closes a token-burn loophole, not the lending launch, which still has only 19 to 21 of the 29 votes it needs.
  • The crew is watching whether support holds at 29 or more for two weeks, and whether XRP can close above $1.40.

The XRP Ledger upgrade that was due on Friday just lost its place in the queue. The fixCleanup3_4_0 amendment had held enough validator votes since October 9 and was set to switch on at 09:34 UTC on October 23. Then, on Wednesday afternoon, support dipped below the line for about two hours, and the two-week clock went back to zero.

The new date is November 4 at 14:46 UTC, if support holds. XRP trades at $1.35 at the time of writing, up about 1% over 24 hours, after a wick to $1.40 on Wednesday that didn’t stick. So what actually changes when this fix goes live, and why is the lending protocol everyone talks about still nowhere near it?

Validator operator Vet confirmed the reset and the quick recovery on X:

FixCleanup3_4_0 is back in activation on the XRP Ledger. One vote dropped and reset the counter.

Two additional votes were added by other validators @daniel_wwf and @aesthetes_art to secure it above the threshold needed, thank you!

How Does an XRP Ledger Upgrade Pass?

An upgrade needs more than 80% of trusted validators to vote yes for two straight weeks. On the default list of 35 validators, that means 29 votes. The network counts the votes about every 15 minutes, and one miss below 29 restarts the countdown.

That is what happened on Wednesday. Support fell to 26 of 35 at 12:54 UTC, as tracked on XRPL Dashboard. By 14:46 UTC it was back at 29, and a new two-week window started. The ledger’s own record agrees: the old October 9 majority is gone and a new one is stamped 14:46 UTC on October 21.

Nobody has said which validators dropped out. A validator that is offline or restarting at the moment of a count looks the same as a “no” vote, so this may have been maintenance rather than a change of mind. Support has since climbed to 31 of 35, two votes of slack this time.

What Does fixCleanup3_4_0 Actually Fix?

This XRP Ledger upgrade is a bug-fix bundle with no new feature for users. The XRPL amendments list describes it as a collection of fixes for Single Asset Vaults, the Lending Protocol, AMMs, the permissioned DEX, trust lines, NFTs and escrow.

The headline fix closes a loophole in token permissions. An account that was only allowed to burn an issuer’s tokens could, under certain conditions, create new ones instead. The XRPL docs tell users not to delegate that burn permission to anyone until this fix is on. It also changes how the lending code decides when a loan is late or in default.

For node operators there is one practical point. Servers that haven’t upgraded to xrpld 3.4.0 by activation day become “amendment blocked” and stop following the network until they update.

Is XRP Ledger Lending Coming With It?

No. XRP Ledger lending comes in separate amendments, and none of them has even started its two-week countdown. LendingProtocol and LendingProtocolV1_1 have 19 votes each, and SingleAssetVault has 21, TokenPost reported. Each needs 29.

In other words, lending is 8 to 10 votes short. Even if every missing validator switched to yes today, the earliest it could go live is two weeks later. Anyone reading “XRP upgrade on Friday” as “XRP lending on Friday” was wrong twice: wrong upgrade, and now wrong date.

XRP Price Analysis: Can XRP Get Back Above $1.40?

XRP price analysis chart, daily candles with 50 and 200 EMA, resistance at $1.40 and support at $1.30 and $1.25

Not yet, and the chart behind this XRP price analysis shows why. Wednesday’s push tagged $1.3992 and closed back near $1.365, and XRP has slipped again since. Right overhead, the 50-day and 200-day exponential moving averages (EMAs), trend lines that weight recent prices more, sit on top of each other at about $1.375. Both are flat, so the trend has no direction.

Above that, $1.40 is the level that turned Wednesday’s move away. Clear it and the next stop is $1.48, the floor of the early-October range that gave way on October 7. Below, XRP spent most of last week around $1.30, and $1.25 is where both the September 16 and October 18 lows sit.

  • In the bull case, a daily close above $1.40 would put $1.48 back in view.
  • In the base case, XRP chops between $1.30 and $1.40 while the vote count runs its two weeks.
  • In the bear case, a daily close below $1.30 would open the way to $1.25.

The vote count matters more than any headline here. If support stays at 29 or more until November 4, the fix goes live and the lending vote is the next story. If it slips again, the clock restarts and the date moves with it.
