The short version

  • Trump Media Bitcoin wallets sent 4,259 BTC, about $344 million, to a Crypto.com address at 02:17 UTC on Thursday, the same route it used for 2,650 BTC in May and 2,628 BTC in August.
  • Crypto.com is one of the company’s two named custodians, and its filings show Bitcoin posted as collateral for options and convertible notes, so the move is not proof of a sale.
  • TRUMP coin fell 20% on Wednesday to a record low of $1.22 after Bloomberg reported Democrats plan to investigate the Trump family’s crypto ties when the new Congress sits on January 3.

“Is Trump Media dumping $BTC?” That was Lookonchain’s question early on Thursday, after two Trump Media Bitcoin wallets, as tagged by Arkham, sent 4,259 BTC, about $344 million, to a Crypto.com address in the same block at 02:17 UTC.

It landed on a rough day for everything with Trump’s name on it. The TRUMP memecoin lost 20% on Wednesday and closed at a record low, after Bloomberg reported that Democrats plan to investigate the crypto business ties of the president and his family once they take over Congress.

So is the company selling? The blockchain doesn’t say that, and the company’s own filings point somewhere else.

Is the Trump Media Bitcoin Treasury Being Sold?

Nothing onchain shows a sale. Crypto.com is one of Trump Media’s two named custodians: when the company raised money for its Bitcoin treasury in May 2025, it said in its press release that Crypto.com and Anchorage Digital would hold the coins.

And the receiving address is an old one. 34jvUb took 2,650 BTC from Trump Media on May 22 and 2,628 BTC on August 1, and swept both into a large Crypto.com wallet within the hour. Thursday went the same way: at 03:31 UTC all 4,259.35 BTC moved on into that wallet, which handles tens of thousands of deposits.

Trump Media’s second-quarter report explains why coins travel. It posts Bitcoin as collateral for covered options, 2,077 BTC at the end of June, with a counterparty that can lend those coins on. Another 4,260.73 BTC back its convertible notes and can’t be withdrawn freely before May 2028. That last figure is within 1.4 BTC of Thursday’s transfer. The filing doesn’t say which wallets hold that collateral, so treat the match as our reading.

In other words, the same route has been used twice before without the treasury shrinking: the company held about 14,139 BTC on July 31, two months after the May move. This Trump Media Bitcoin transfer is close to a third of that. The third-quarter report, due this month, will show whether the count dropped.

Why TRUMP Coin Fell 20%

TRUMP coin had one of its worst days since it launched in January 2025. TRUMP opened Wednesday at $1.587 on Binance and closed at $1.270, down 20%. Only three days were worse, the last one the October 10, 2025 crash.

It started at 15:43 UTC (10:43 a.m. in Washington), when Bloomberg reported the probe plans:

JUST IN: 🇺🇸 Democrats plan to investigate crypto industry's financial ties to President Trump and his family, Bloomberg reports.

The selling sped up around noon in Washington. Between 17:00 and 18:00 UTC TRUMP fell from $1.396 to $1.219, a new all-time low, and the bounce since has been thin. The token trades at $1.28 at the time of writing, down 14% over 24 hours, while Bitcoin rose 3.9% on Wednesday and is back above $80,000.

That gap says the selling was about Trump, not about crypto. The old floor, a $1.40 close on August 13, is now overhead, and both the 50-day moving average (MA) at $1.86 and the 200-day MA at $1.92 sit far above it.

SIDE TRAIL: Midterm Election Results: Democrats Win Congress, BTC Dips

What Democrats Want to Look At

Bloomberg’s report points to World Liberty Financial, a $500 million stake in it from an Emirati investor, and the pardon of Binance’s Changpeng Zhao. Trump Media sits close to that circle. Besides custody, it runs prediction markets with Crypto.com’s US derivatives arm and holds 756 million Cronos (CRO), Crypto.com’s token, on its balance sheet.

What changes for Democrats is the subpoena. Until now they could send letters and hold shadow hearings. Running committees lets them demand documents and testimony, though they can’t pass laws over a veto.

The memecoin is already part of any Trump crypto investigation. In August, Senators Elizabeth Warren and Richard Blumenthal asked the SEC to examine whether TRUMP fits the pattern of a “soft rug pull.” Warren is in line to chair the Senate Banking Committee.

None of it starts yet. The new Congress is sworn in on January 3, 2027.
