Crypto Week Ahead Base Camp

The short version

  • Crypto week ahead: Blast’s normal withdrawals close Monday, the Fed decides Wednesday at 18:00 UTC with a 92% chance of a hold on Kalshi, and Robinhood, Coinbase and Strategy all report earnings.
  • Thursday is the riskiest day, with US GDP and PCE inflation at 12:30 UTC landing the morning after the Fed, then Coinbase and Strategy results after the close.
  • The crew is watching Saturday’s monthly close: bitcoin needs to get back above $83,624, 3.8% higher, to avoid its first red month since June.

The crypto week ahead is the busiest since September. The Fed decision lands on Wednesday, Robinhood, Coinbase and Strategy all report earnings, and Blast’s easy exit closes on Monday. Bitcoin heads into it at $80,582 at the time of writing, 3.6% below where October started.

So bitcoin has one week to rescue the month, and the calendar is full of things that could help or hurt. Here’s every date that matters, in order, and what the crew is watching on each.

First the one with a hard deadline. Blast told users on October 2 that the chain is shutting down:

Blast will be shutting down.

We launched Blast with the goal of building a self-sustaining chain for users and developers. Unfortunately, the economics of operating the chain no longer make sense: the ongoing costs of maintaining Blast exceed the revenue generated by the L2, and

Monday: Blast’s Last Easy Exit

Monday is the Blast withdrawal deadline, the last day to bridge out the easy way. The Ethereum layer 2, which pulled in over $2 billion before it even launched in 2024, said running the chain now costs more than it earns. Users have until October 26 to withdraw to Ethereum through the normal interface.

Coins left behind aren’t lost. After the deadline they sit in Blast’s bridge contracts on Ethereum, and getting them out means calling those contracts directly. That’s fiddly, and easy to get wrong if you’ve never done it.

Not much is left to move. DefiLlama counts about $8 million in DeFi on Blast today, down from $2.26 billion at the June 2024 peak. If some of it is yours, do it this weekend.

Tuesday: Robinhood Earnings

Robinhood reports after the US close on Tuesday, with the call at 5:00 p.m. New York time. Wall Street expects $0.55 in earnings per share on $1.42 billion in revenue.

The number we care about is crypto revenue, which the consensus puts at $135.6 million. Our math says the app’s Q3 crypto volume points closer to $115 million, while prediction markets keep growing. We went through it line by line in our Robinhood earnings preview. The stock has dropped the day after each of its last five reports.

Robinhood also runs its own layer 2 now. We looked at how Robinhood Chain’s memecoin boom is fading while perps take over.

Wednesday: The Fed Decision and Two Binance Delistings

Wednesday is the big one for bitcoin. The Federal Reserve announces its decision at 18:00 UTC, and Chair Kevin Warsh speaks half an hour later. On Kalshi, traders price a hold at 92% and a hike at 8%.

A hold isn’t the risk. The risk is what Warsh says about December, where Kalshi still prices a hike at 77%. A hawkish hold could lift those odds further, and risk assets rarely like that. We laid out the three ways it can go in our Fed meeting preview.

Earlier that day, at 03:00 UTC, Binance ends all spot trading in Epic Chain (EPIC) and QuickSwap (QUICK). Open orders are cancelled automatically. Withdrawals stay open until December 28, and after that Binance may convert what’s left into a stablecoin.

Thursday: GDP, Inflation and Two Crypto Earnings Reports

Thursday packs the most into one day. At 12:30 UTC the US publishes Q3 GDP and September’s PCE inflation, the Fed’s preferred inflation gauge. It lands the morning after the decision, so a hot number can undo whatever calm Warsh managed the night before. The European Central Bank decides at 13:15 UTC.

After the US close, Coinbase earnings and Strategy’s land at the same time:

  • Coinbase posts its Q3 results and answers questions live on X at 2:00 p.m. Pacific, which is 21:00 UTC. It lost $359.5 million in Q2, so the market wants to see trading revenue recover.
  • Strategy holds its webinar at 5:00 p.m. New York time. It owns 848,517 BTC at an average of $75,446, and bitcoin rose 43% in Q3. Under fair value accounting that should mean a big paper profit, but the stock trades on what Michael Saylor says about buying more.

One smaller date for Solana watchers: SkyAI’s $3.00-per-share tender offer, funded with the cash from selling all its SOL, closes at midnight New York time.

Friday and Saturday: The HYPE Tell and the Monthly Close

Friday is the day to check Hyperliquid’s team wallets. About 9.92 million HYPE vests on November 6, and staked HYPE takes seven days to unlock, so any team unstaking should show up around October 30. Our HYPE unlock piece has the numbers on how much the buybacks can soak up.

Then comes Saturday’s bitcoin monthly close, the last item on the crypto week ahead. One date that won’t matter: October 31 was the Mt. Gox repayment deadline, but the trustee moved it to October 31, 2027. No forced payout lands this week.

Bitcoin Price Analysis: Can BTC Save October?

BTCUSDT daily chart with the October open at $83,624, resistance $84,800, support $80,394 and $76,264, and the 50 and 200 day EMAs
BTCUSDT Chart 1D Binance

Only with a 3.8% bounce. October opened at $83,624 on Binance, and bitcoin needs to close the month above it to avoid its first red month since June, when it fell 20%.

Right now BTC sits on its 50-day exponential moving average (EMA), a trend line that weights recent prices more, at $80,842. The 200-day EMA is at $76,267. Bitcoin hasn’t closed a day below $80,394 all month, and the Fear & Greed Index reads 51, neutral.

  • In the bull case, a plain hold and calm earnings lift BTC back above $83,624 for a green month, with the $84,800 area, where Wednesday’s rally was rejected, next.
  • In the base case, bitcoin chops between $80,394 and $83,624 and closes October slightly red.
  • In the bear case, a hawkish Warsh or hot PCE breaks $80,394, and the next stop is $76,264, right on the 200-day EMA.

Most weeks have one big event. This one has five, and four of them land between Tuesday night and Thursday night. Mark Wednesday 18:00 UTC, and don’t get attached to a direction before Thursday’s PCE.
