The short version
- Hyperliquid whale wallet 0x0cc1 closed its entire WTI long overnight at a $5.8 million loss, after oil fell 16% in five sessions on US-Iran peace hopes.
- It did not quit oil: it added $9.5 million of margin on Wednesday and now holds exactly 1 million Brent contracts worth $93.7 million, $9.4 million under water.
- Next: whether Brent holds the 200-day average near $93.84; the whale’s liquidation sits at $82.40.
$29.5 million in, $12.6 million left. That is where the Hyperliquid whale behind this week’s $147 million oil bet stands after crude’s fastest drop in months.
The wallet closed its whole WTI long overnight for a $5.8 million loss. It did not walk away from oil, though. On Wednesday it sent in another $9.5 million of margin and grew its Brent long to exactly one million contracts, worth $93.7 million at the time of writing.
The whale who went long $147M in #oil is starting to give up, with total losses of $15.3M!
He closed his 587,250 $CL ($51.87M) long, losing $5.83M.
He still holds a long on 1M $BRENTOIL ($93.7M), with a $9.45M unrealized loss.
Liquidation price: $82.4.

What Did the Hyperliquid Whale Sell?
All of the WTI. Wallet 0x0cc1 had held 580,960 CL contracts at an average of $98.23 since our first look at the trade on Tuesday. The exit came in two steps:
- About 95,000 contracts near $89.17 on Wednesday around 16:45 UTC (11:45 a.m. in New York)
- The last 500,000 at about $88.08 between 00:00 and 00:15 UTC today (7:00 to 7:15 p.m. Wednesday in New York)
Hyperliquid’s trade history puts the loss on the WTI leg at $5.79 million. Lookonchain counts $5.83 million with fees. Almost all of it went out through resting limit orders instead of market sells, so this looks like a planned exit rather than a margin call.

Why Is the Whale Still Long Brent?
Because it bought more. At 15:04 and 16:22 UTC on Wednesday, the same address that funded the wallet in October sent two more USDC transfers, $5 million and $4.52 million. Minutes later, with Brent sliding through $97.5, the whale bought 131,160 Brent contracts at $97.56. Some of those fills came from other traders’ longs being liquidated into its bid.
The buying came as this headline crossed the wires:
US CRUDE FUTURES FALL BY MORE THAN $5/BBL, BRENT CRUDE FUTURES DOWN BY MORE THAN $7/BBL
The result is a cleaner, bigger bet on one contract:
- 1,000,000 BRENTOIL at an average of $103.15, now 7x cross margin
- $9.4 million down on paper, with Brent at $93.81 on Hyperliquid
- Liquidation at $82.40, about 12% below the current price
That one position is now about 29% of all open interest in Hyperliquid’s Brent perp, up from a quarter on Tuesday.
What Sank Oil This Week?
Peace talk. Brent on Hyperliquid closed at $112.71 on October 30 and at $94.86 on Wednesday, a 16% drop in five sessions. Wednesday alone took off about 9%. Brent futures in London settled near $93.50.
The chain of news went like this:
- Monday: Iran’s president said the government had room to settle the war through talks, and a draft proposal started circulating after meetings in Qatar.
- Wednesday: President Trump told the Financial Times that Washington has no immediate plans to strike Iran, adding: “We seem to be getting everything we want.”
- A senior Iranian official said the Strait of Hormuz could reopen within two days if the US lifts oil sanctions and releases frozen assets.
Fewer barrels stuck behind Hormuz means lower prices, and traders sold the risk premium fast. The whale is betting that, like every peace headline since February, this one fades. Trump also told Fox News that a “heavy hit” on Iran is still possible.

Brent Price: Does the 200-Day MA Hold?

It is being tested right now. Brent trades at $93.81 on Hyperliquid, sitting on the 200-day moving average at $93.84. The last time it was here, in late September, buyers stepped in within days.
The area to watch is $93 to $94. If Brent closes the day clearly below it, there is little on the chart until the August range in the low to mid $80s, and that is where this whale’s $82.40 liquidation line starts to feel close. Remember the account is cross margin: the $12.6 million left is all that stands between the position and the liquidation engine, unless the funder sends more.
Getting back to break-even needs Brent above $103.15, which is also where the 50-day average sits. That would take a stalled deal, not a chart pattern.
TRAIL MAP: Risk Management: The 1% Rule and Position Sizing That Keeps You in the Game
One wallet has now lost about $16 million, counting the open Brent loss, on the view that peace talks fail. The next headline from Doha or Washington decides whether that number grows or shrinks.
